Hand-painted and crafted to capture real breeds, colours and famous horses, every Breyer model is finished with remarkable detail. We stock individual models, play sets, stables and accessories across all the main scales. Whether you're adding to a collection or buying a first model for a budding equestrian, there's a Breyer here to love.

About The Breyer Horses Range

Breyer has been making model horses since 1950, when the first Breyer horse appeared as a decoration on a mantel clock. The demand for the horse alone was so strong that Breyer began producing model horses in their own right, and more than 70 years later they're the most recognised name in collectible model horses worldwide.

Each model is hand-painted and finished to capture the conformation, breed characteristics and coat colours of real horses, with many models based on famous champions and beloved breeds. Breyer horses occupy a unique space between toy and collectible: durable enough for children to play with, yet detailed and authentic enough to be displayed and collected for a lifetime.

Traditional Scale

The Traditional range is Breyer's largest and most detailed scale, at approximately 1:9. These are the flagship models, standing around 30 cm tall, with the finest hand-painted detail and the most realistic finishes.

Traditional models are the centrepiece of most serious collections and often depict famous real horses, recognised breeds and limited edition releases. Their size and detail also make them ideal for model horse showing, photography and customising. If you're buying a special gift or starting a display collection, a Traditional model is the classic choice.

Classics Scale

The Classics range is a mid-size scale at approximately 1:12, standing around 15 to 20 cm tall. Smaller and more affordable than Traditional models, Classics are a great option for younger collectors, for building larger herds, and for play sets that include horses with stables, trailers and accessories. They retain excellent detail while being more manageable in size and price, making them a popular middle ground.

Stablemates Scale

Stablemates are Breyer's smallest standard scale at approximately 1:32, standing around 7 to 10 cm tall. Their pocket-sized format makes them affordable, collectible and perfect for children, and they're often sold in multi-packs, blind bags and play sets. Despite their small size, Stablemates capture the same breed detail and colour variety as the larger scales.

They're an ideal entry point for young collectors and great for building extensive collections without taking up much space.

Play Sets, Stables and Accessories

Beyond individual models, Breyer offers a full world of play sets, stables, horse trailers, tack and accessories that let children create their own equestrian scenes. Deluxe stable sets, wash stalls, feeding accessories and rider figures bring the models to life for imaginative play. Activity sets like Suncatcher paint-and-play kits and customising sets let kids decorate their own models. These sets coordinate by scale, so accessories sized for Classics or Stablemates match their respective model ranges.

Collecting Breyer Horses

Breyer models have a passionate global collecting community. Limited edition releases, retired models, special run colours and vintage pieces from past decades can become highly sought after, and some rare older models appreciate significantly in value.

New collectors often start with whichever scale suits their space and budget, then specialise over time, perhaps by breed, colour, scale or by collecting famous horse models. Keeping models in good condition, ideally with their original boxes, helps preserve both their display quality and their collectible value.

Common Questions About Breyer Horses

See below questions we get asked.

What are Breyer horses made of?

Breyer horses are made from cellulose acetate, a durable plastic, using a process called injection moulding. Each model is then hand-painted, which is why no two are ever exactly alike. The material is sturdy enough to handle play while holding fine detail, which is part of why Breyer models last for generations.

What are the different sizes of Breyer horses?

The three main scales are Traditional (approximately 1:9, around 30 cm tall), Classics (approximately 1:12, around 15 to 20 cm tall) and Stablemates (approximately 1:32, around 7 to 10 cm tall). Traditional models have the most detail and are favoured by collectors, while Classics and Stablemates are smaller, more affordable and popular for play and building larger collections.

Are Breyer horses toys or collectibles?

They're both. Breyer models are durable enough for children to play with and detailed enough to be displayed and collected. Many families have models that have been played with by children and later become treasured collectibles. Limited editions and retired models are particularly popular with adult collectors.

Are old Breyer horses worth anything?

Some vintage and rare Breyer models can be valuable, particularly limited editions, retired colours and well-preserved pieces from earlier decades. Condition matters significantly, and models kept in good condition with their original boxes tend to hold value best. Value varies widely depending on rarity and demand, so it's worth researching a specific model if you think you may have a rare one.

Which Breyer scale is best for a child?

It depends on the child's age and how they'll use the model. Stablemates are affordable, collectible and great for younger children and building collections. Classics suit play sets and mid-range budgets. Traditional models are the most detailed and make a special gift, though their size and finish mean they're often best for older children or display. Many children enjoy a mix of scales over time.
